HS Code

The HS Code (Harmonized System Code) is an internationally standardized commodity classification system used in global trade. It serves as the basis for customs tariffs, import and export regulations, and regulatory requirements in many countries. Within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the HS Code forms the basis for classification under the TN VED EAEU system and therefore plays a key role in determining EAC certification and declaration requirements.

The Harmonized System was developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and is used by more than 200 countries and economic regions worldwide. The first six digits of an HS Code are internationally standardized, while the EAEU expands the classification through the ten-digit TN VED code.

The HS Code is used to:

  • classify products,
  • determine customs duties,
  • identify import and export requirements,
  • determine certification obligations,
  • support trade statistics,
  • and standardize international trade procedures.

Correct product classification is essential for EAC conformity assessment. Many EAEU Technical Regulations are linked directly to TN VED classifications. Incorrect classification may result in certification errors, customs clearance delays, or additional costs.
