Customs Tariff Code
The Customs Tariff Code – also known as HS Code or TN VED Code – is the numerical product classification code used to identify goods in international trade. For exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the correct Customs Tariff Code is critically important because it determines applicable customs duties, import requirements, Technical Regulations and certification obligations.
The Eurasian Economic Union includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. Within this common market, customs classification is based on the TN VED EAEU system — the Commodity Nomenclature for Foreign Economic Activity of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Each product receives a specific customs classification code that defines its technical and commercial categorization. The Customs Tariff Code directly influences:
- customs duties,
- import taxes,
- EAC certification requirements,
- EAC declaration obligations,
- import restrictions,
- governmental registrations,
- as well as additional approvals and regulatory controls.
For many products, the Customs Tariff Code is directly linked to the Technical Regulations of the EAEU (TR EAEU / TR CU). Only after correct classification can it be determined whether a product requires:
- an EAC Certificate,
- an EAC Declaration,
- governmental registration,
- an import license,
- or additional testing procedures.
Incorrect Customs Tariff Codes may result in serious consequences, including:
- incorrect certification procedures,
- additional customs payments,
- customs clearance delays,
- repeated testing requirements,
- regulatory findings,
- or rejection of goods at the border.
For machinery, electrical equipment, industrial systems, chemicals and complex technical products in particular, proper classification can be highly challenging. Technical characteristics, material composition and intended use must all be carefully evaluated.
The Customs Tariff Code is also closely connected to Technical Documentation, product marking, safety requirements and import procedures. Regulatorily correct classification is therefore essential for legally compliant market access within the EAEU.
In practice, incorrect customs classification is among the most common causes of export problems and certification delays.
We support manufacturers, exporters and importers in determining the correct Customs Tariff Code within the Eurasian Economic Union. Our services include product analysis, regulatory evaluation, identification of applicable Technical Regulations and coordination with customs authorities and certification bodies. This ensures efficient, reliable and legally compliant market access throughout the EAEU.
