CE vs. EAC
CE and EAC are two separate conformity systems designed for different economic markets. The CE marking allows products to be placed on the European Union and European Economic Area markets, while the EAC marking (“Eurasian Conformity”) is required for exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The EAEU includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. A common misconception is that a CE-compliant product is automatically approved for the EAEU market — in reality, both systems are legally independent from each other.
The CE marking is based on European directives and regulations, whereas EAC conformity is governed by the Technical Regulations of the EAEU (TR EAEU / TR CU). Although both systems pursue similar safety objectives, they differ significantly in procedures, testing requirements and documentation obligations. In many cases, CE conformity can be achieved through manufacturer self-declaration, while EAC conformity often requires testing by accredited laboratories, certification by accredited bodies and, depending on the product, official registration or factory audits.
The differences are particularly important for machinery, pressure equipment, electrical products, explosion-protected equipment and industrial systems. Test reports or certificates issued under EU regulations cannot automatically be transferred to EAEU conformity procedures. However, existing CE documentation such as risk assessments, technical files and test reports can often be partially reused for EAC certification purposes, reducing duplication of effort.
In practice, every product requires an individual assessment regarding applicable Technical Regulations, product classification and the required certification or declaration procedure. Incorrect assumptions about CE-to-EAC transferability frequently result in certification delays, customs issues or import restrictions.
