GOST Standards

GOST standards are state technical standards originally developed in the former Soviet Union and still widely used in Russia and other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The term GOST stands for “Gosudarstvenny Standard” (“State Standard”). For manufacturers and exporters, GOST standards remain highly important because they define technical requirements, testing methods, safety parameters and quality criteria for a wide range of product categories.

With the introduction of the Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union (TR EAEU / TR CU), a unified modern conformity assessment system was established. Nevertheless, GOST standards continue to serve as the technical basis for product testing and safety evaluations. In many cases, they function as harmonized standards supporting the practical implementation of Technical Regulation requirements. In product areas without a dedicated Technical Regulation, GOST-based certification procedures may still apply directly.

GOST standards regulate testing procedures, material requirements, safety parameters, marking obligations and quality specifications. They play a central role in product testing carried out by accredited laboratories. The resulting test reports are then used within EAC certification or declaration procedures.

GOST standards are particularly important for machinery, electrical equipment, pressure equipment, industrial systems, materials, chemical products and many industrial components. These standards often define detailed technical requirements that go beyond general safety principles. Correct identification of applicable GOST standards is therefore essential for a successful certification process.

In practice, problems frequently arise when European or international standards are incorrectly assumed to be sufficient. Although many technical requirements are comparable, EN, ISO or IEC standards do not automatically replace applicable GOST standards or EAEU regulatory requirements. Technical documentation and test reports often need to be specifically adapted to EAEU conformity assessment procedures.

Accredited laboratories and certification bodies within the EAEU perform testing according to relevant GOST standards. The results are documented in official test reports and become part of the technical documentation and EAC conformity assessment process.

We support manufacturers and exporters in identifying the relevant GOST standards and determining the applicable regulatory requirements for their products within the EAEU. Our services include technical evaluations, coordination of accredited testing, preparation of technical documentation and management of EAC certification or declaration procedures. This ensures legally compliant and reliable market access throughout the Eurasian Economic Union.
