Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a standardized document containing all safety-related information about chemical substances and mixtures. It provides information about hazardous properties, safe handling, storage, transportation, disposal and emergency measures. For exports of chemical products and hazardous substances to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Safety Data Sheet is a key part of regulatory documentation and is often required for registration, certification and legal market access.

The Eurasian Economic Union includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. Within this common market, specific regulatory requirements apply to chemical substances, hazardous materials and industrial chemicals. The SDS serves as an official safety document for authorities, certification bodies, importers and end users.

From a regulatory perspective, Safety Data Sheets for the EAEU must be prepared according to applicable GOST standards. One of the most important standards is GOST 30333, which defines the structure, content and formatting requirements for Safety Data Sheets. In addition, the relevant Technical Regulations of the EAEU (TR EAEU / TR CU) must also be considered.

The Safety Data Sheet must be provided in Russian language and translated in full regulatory compliance. Incorrect translations, incomplete hazard statements or non-compliant substance classifications are among the most common reasons for regulatory findings during registrations and customs inspections.

A Safety Data Sheet typically contains information about substance identification, hazard classification, composition, first aid measures, firefighting procedures, accidental release measures, handling, storage, personal protective equipment, physical and chemical properties, toxicology and environmental information.

Proper Safety Data Sheets are especially important for hazardous substances, industrial chemicals, paints, coatings, lubricants, cleaning agents and chemical intermediates. In many cases, the SDS forms the basis for governmental registration and additional safety evaluations within the EAEU.

The Safety Data Sheet is also closely linked to product labeling, packaging labeling and hazardous substance classification. Inconsistencies between the SDS, labels and technical documentation frequently result in regulatory problems and import delays.

In practice, outdated substance information, incomplete formulations, missing Russian technical terminology and incorrectly adapted GOST formatting are among the most common issues related to Safety Data Sheets for the EAEU.

We support manufacturers and exporters in the complete preparation, review and adaptation of Safety Data Sheets for the Eurasian Economic Union. Our services include regulatory substance evaluation, GOST-compliant SDS preparation, professional Russian technical translations, technical documentation and support with governmental registrations and EAC conformity procedures. This ensures reliable and legally compliant market access throughout the EAEU.
