Hazard Analysis
Hazard analysis is the systematic identification and evaluation of potential hazards associated with a product, machine or technical system. It forms a key part of the safety assessment process within EAC conformity assessment procedures for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The purpose of hazard analysis is to identify risks at an early stage and reduce them to an acceptable level through technical or organizational protective measures.
The regulatory requirements are defined by the Technical Regulations of the EAEU (TR EAEU / TR CU), especially for machinery, industrial equipment, pressure equipment and explosion-protected products. Hazard analysis is an essential component of the technical documentation and technical file. Without a properly documented hazard analysis, product conformity often cannot be demonstrated.
During the hazard analysis process, different categories of hazards are evaluated. These include mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical, hydraulic and explosion-related risks. In addition, hazards arising during transportation, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal are considered. The analysis evaluates both the probability of hazardous events and their potential impact on people, equipment and the environment.
The results of the hazard analysis directly influence product design and the selection of appropriate protective measures. These may include safety devices, warning labels, protective functions or organizational measures described in the operating instructions. For machinery covered by TR CU 010/2011 in particular, hazard analysis is closely connected to the risk assessment process.
Accredited certification bodies and testing laboratories use the hazard analysis as a key element when evaluating product safety during EAC certification or EAC declaration procedures. Incomplete, inconsistent or poorly documented analyses are among the most common reasons for delays or additional requests during conformity assessment.
