Legal Representative
A Legal Representative is a natural or legal person authorized to perform specific legal and regulatory functions on behalf of a manufacturer, importer, or other economic operator. Within the context of EAC certification and EAEU conformity assessment, Legal Representatives often act as intermediaries between companies, Certification Bodies, regulatory authorities, and market surveillance organizations.
The role of a Legal Representative may include:
- submitting certification documents,
- communicating with authorities,
- supporting conformity assessment procedures,
- providing regulatory information,
- maintaining documentation,
- and assisting during market surveillance activities.
Legal Representatives play an especially important role for companies located outside the Eurasian Economic Union. Foreign Manufacturers frequently require a locally established representative to facilitate regulatory procedures and communication within the EAEU.
The term Legal Representative is often confused with Authorized Representative. While the two roles may overlap, they are not necessarily identical. An Authorized Representative is usually appointed through a formal written authorization and may be granted specific regulatory responsibilities. A Legal Representative can be used more broadly depending on the legal framework and business arrangement.
Clear assignment of responsibilities is essential for efficient certification and compliance management. Unclear representation structures can lead to delays in certification procedures, registration processes, and regulatory approvals.
Legal Representatives often support manufacturers and importers by coordinating communication with Certification Bodies, ensuring document consistency, monitoring compliance obligations, and assisting with regulatory changes that may affect existing certifications.
For companies operating in international supply chains, an experienced Legal Representative can help reduce administrative burdens, improve regulatory transparency, and minimize compliance risks.
We support manufacturers and exporters in defining regulatory responsibilities, documenting representation arrangements, and coordinating communication with Certification Bodies and regulatory authorities throughout the Eurasian Economic Union.
