Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) / TR CU 020/2011
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) describes the ability of an electrical or electronic product to operate correctly without causing unacceptable electromagnetic interference to other devices and without being negatively affected by external electromagnetic disturbances. For exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), EMC compliance is a fundamental safety requirement for many electrical and electronic products. Devices that fail to meet EMC requirements cannot legally be placed on the EAEU market and are not eligible for EAC certification or EAC declaration.
The regulatory basis for EMC compliance within the EAEU is Technical Regulation TR CU 020/2011 – Electromagnetic Compatibility of Technical Equipment. This regulation defines requirements for electromagnetic emissions and immunity of electrical devices. Its purpose is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of technical equipment in industrial, commercial and residential environments. TR CU 020/2011 is frequently applied together with other Technical Regulations, especially TR CU 004/2011 for low-voltage equipment.
As part of the EAC conformity assessment procedure, EMC testing is carried out by accredited laboratories. The tests verify that the product remains within the permitted electromagnetic emission limits while also demonstrating adequate resistance to external electromagnetic disturbances. Testing procedures are based on applicable GOST standards and technical norms. The resulting test reports form part of the technical documentation required for EAC certification or declaration procedures.
EMC requirements apply to a wide range of products, including electrical machinery, industrial systems, control equipment, power supplies, household appliances, electronic assemblies and industrial automation systems. In practice, improper EMC design, insufficient shielding or missing test documentation are among the most common reasons for certification delays.
EMC requirements within the EAEU differ in several aspects from European CE/EMC conformity procedures. Existing EU EMC test reports may sometimes be used as supporting documentation, but they do not automatically replace EAC conformity assessment requirements.
We support manufacturers and exporters in the complete EMC conformity assessment process for the EAEU market. Our services include product classification, technical documentation, coordination of accredited EMC testing and management of EAC certification or declaration procedures. This ensures legally compliant and reliable market access throughout the Eurasian Economic Union.
