Type Examination Certificate
A Type Examination Certificate is a Proof of Conformity that may be issued within certain Conformity Assessment procedures on the basis of a Type Examination. It confirms that an examined product type complies with the specified requirements of the applicable technical regulations. Within the EAEU, type examination may form part of certain EAC Conformity Assessment procedures.
During a type examination, a representative product sample is technically examined and assessed. Depending on the product and the applicable requirements, this may include product testing, technical assessments and review of the relevant documentation. The resulting Type Examination Certificate documents the assessment of the examined product type.
Technical Regulations (TR EAEU / TR CU) determine which conformity assessment procedures apply to the respective product groups. Whether type examination is required or permitted therefore depends on the applicable Technical Regulation and the intended Certification Scheme.
Depending on the Technical Regulation and certification scheme, type examination may be provided for different product groups. These may include, for example, machinery under TR CU 010/2011, low-voltage equipment under TR CU 004/2011, pressure equipment under TR CU 032/2013 or equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres under TR CU 012/2011. The requirements of the applicable Technical Regulation and the intended conformity assessment procedure are decisive.
The assessment of a product type may be based, among other things, on the following documents and evidence:
- Product Testing and other required tests,
- Test Report or other test evidence,
- Technical Documentation,
- technical descriptions and drawings,
- as well as other product-specific documents and evidence.
The tests and documents actually required depend on the specific product, the applicable Technical Regulation and the intended procedure.
A Type Examination Certificate is not automatically equivalent to an EAC Certificate. Rather, it may constitute evidence within a broader conformity assessment procedure. Depending on the applicable certification scheme, additional measures such as a Factory Audit, Production Surveillance or Inspection Control may also be required.
For the Manufacturer, it is therefore important to determine which conformity assessment procedure is prescribed for the specific product and what function type examination has within that procedure.
