Pressure Equipment Category (TR CU 032/2013)

The Pressure Equipment Category describes the regulatory classification of pressure equipment according to its hazard potential within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Classification is performed in accordance with Technical Regulation TR CU 032/2013 “On Safety of Pressure Equipment” and forms the basis for the applicable EAC conformity assessment procedure.

TR CU 032/2013 applies to numerous types of pressure equipment and pressure-containing systems, including:

  • pressure vessels,
  • pipelines,
  • boilers,
  • valves,
  • heat exchangers,
  • safety devices,
  • as well as industrial pressure systems.

Pressure Equipment Categories are determined based on technical parameters such as:

  • maximum allowable pressure,
  • volume,
  • nominal diameter,
  • temperature,
  • type of medium,
  • physical state of the medium,
  • as well as the hazard potential of the substance involved.

The regulation distinguishes four Pressure Equipment Categories:

  • Category 1 → low risk
  • Category 2 → medium risk
  • Category 3 → increased risk
  • Category 4 → high risk

The Pressure Equipment Category directly determines the applicable conformity assessment procedure:

Category 1–2

For pressure equipment classified under Categories 1 and 2, conformity assessment is generally performed through:

Category 3–4

For pressure equipment classified under Categories 3 and 4, the following are generally required:

As the Pressure Equipment Category increases, regulatory requirements also increase regarding:

Incorrect classification of Pressure Equipment Categories may lead to serious consequences, including:

  • incorrect certification procedures,
  • additional testing costs,
  • certification delays,
  • regulatory findings,
  • customs clearance problems,
  • or rejection of goods.

Pressure Equipment Categories are closely connected to:

For industrial systems, boiler systems, energy equipment and complex pressure installations in particular, correct categorization is essential for legally compliant exports within the EAEU.

We support manufacturers, plant engineering companies and exporters in the regulatorily compliant classification of pressure equipment according to TR CU 032/2013. Our services include technical evaluation, categorization, Technical Documentation, testing coordination and cooperation with accredited Certification Bodies and testing laboratories. This ensures legally compliant, reliable and efficient market access throughout the Eurasian Economic Union.
